This film explores an important part of the culture of India, especially southern India – a dance form, bharatanatyam.  Relying on two masters trained in India’s famous Kalakshetra Institute, we see how the dance is intimately linked to India’s Hindu heritage.

In the documentary, academy directors dancers Katherine Kunhiraman, and her husband the famous dancer K.P. Kunhiraman, explain the dance form – a kind of sign language – and its relation to Indian culture  They founded a dance academy in California which primarily serves the daughters of Indian immigrants anxious to pass their heritage on to the next generation.The dances are both beautiful and colorful, and the stories, fascinating.
